AEM 6.2: A New Focus on Content Marketing and Velocity

As the third blog in our AEM 6.2 series, this post highlights another important aspect of the latest version of AEM—dramatic improvements in content marketing and velocity.

Today’s digital marketers have an ever-increasing need for faster content authoring and more personalized marketing—across more channels than ever. Velocity is increasing. Content demands are growing. And fortunately, AEM 6.2 boldly addresses these needs.

What’s New in AEM 6.2?

Digital marketers everywhere will appreciate a full line-up of features designed to make their lives easier. Here are a few of the top features:

Marketing Cloud UI – AEM 6.2 comes with the unified UI that’s common across Adobe Marketing Cloud, a major effort towards streamlining the journey of the marketer. This easy-to-use content authoring interface enables marketers to create content, create personalized experiences and measure the results—all with the same user experience. The new also uses a web component-based Coral UI 3 (an upgrade from Coral UI 2).

Omnisearch – In the past, content authors often struggled to find existing assets on their websites. Their struggle is over. Omnisearch offers enhanced search and auto-suggestion capabilities, and it works across all parts of AEM, including Sites, Projects, Communities, Apps and Assets.

Smart Tags – Based on Adobe’s acquisition of Fotolia last year, AEM 6.2 offers a new tool called Smart Tags, which helps users find assets and create groupings. When users upload a new image, a smaller version is created and sent to the Fotolia server. The server uses an intelligent algorithm to immediately create an appropriate tag. So even before you tag the image, the system does it for you. This improves search capabilities and even enables bulk editing of tags.

AEM Assets Companion App – For users who want to use their own desktop interface, they can configure their proxies and access assets through this add-on desktop app.

Linkshare – Users can now share assets, folders and directories on an ad hoc basis. Linkshare lets you create a URL and share it with who you want when you want. No login is required and allows you to set expiration dates, hence removing the dependency on external systems for asset sharing for users outside of AEM.

Brand Portal Cloud Service – Ready to use right out-of-the-box, this solution enables seamless sharing and distribution of assets across partners, internal teams and external collaborators.

Dynamic Media – When operating in “dynamic media”run mode, cqdam.pyramid.tiff rendition is automatically created for every image asset you upload. You can create an infinite number of renditions on the fly, with no additional storage. It also provides built-in support for interactive renditions (image spins, flips and 360-degree turns that are common to 3D graphics).

Integration with Creative Cloud – The AEM Assets-Marketing Cloud synchronization enables a user machine instance from where the asset is uploaded to retain the right to modify an uploaded asset. These changes are in turn propagated to the other instances of the asset as well. This seamless integration helps speed processes and makes life easier for digital marketers.

RAW Image Support – AEM 6.2 enhanced the camera raw files using Adobe raw image library, reducing the production time and making it easier for users to work between AEM, Marketing Cloud and Creative Cloud.

AEM Mobile – AEM Mobile 6.2 also combined two apps—DPS (Digital Publishing Suite) and AEM Apps—offering a more robust product offering and a broader spectrum of content and utility apps in one tool. This on-demand connector helps content authors create and manage content more quickly and seamlessly using tools found in AEM Mobile UI.

Responsive Layout Editor – This tool makes it easier for content authors to create a responsive behavior for mobile devices while reducing the development effort to get the job done. Users can add new mobile devices and add breakpoints simply by adding new configurations—all without the need for development.

Multi-Channel Delivery with Content Fragments – Provides the ability to design, create, curate and use the channel-neutral content. Any type of content is treated as an asset and multiple renditions can be created, enabling use across various channels. Read more.

New Area Concept – This feature helps separate targeted content used in different multi-lingual sites and provides a Multi-Site Management (MSM)-based mechanism to manage the inheritance process, enabling users to create more targeted experiences. Read more.
